Dear Neighbors,
It has been my practice over the past few months to send the monthly highlights for the Foothills Area Command to all the Neighborhood Presidents and Vice Presidents. I have heard back from several neighbors that this is good information and they appreciate seeing the hard work that Albuquerque Police Officers are doing. Some have mentioned they were unaware of the efforts put forth in addressing the myriad community concerns and crimes. It is not just making arrests, issuing traffic citations or patrolling neighborhoods. Our officers are working with local businesses to address safety concerns at closing time. They are working with the local schools to develop safety plans for a variety of possibilities. They are involving Parks and Recreation to address the neighborhood concerns in the local park.
Given the negative media attention directed at the entire Albuquerque Police Department over that past several months, I feel it has never been more important for each of you to see that the men and women of the Albuquerque Police Department are dedicated professionals and driven to make Albuquerque a safe community! I have spoken to numerous neighborhood associations. I have been showered with praise for the Albuquerque Police Department's men and women, some constructive criticism and have always stressed that I am very approachable (in person, telephone or e-mail) to hear your concerns. I work for the community and have a sincere desire to make Albuquerque the best place to live and work!
I would like to ask a favor. Talk to your City Councilor and the Mayor. Let them know how you feel about your police department. I am concerned that a very vocal minority is having an over-represented voice in our community. Please let your voice be heard!
Stay safe,
Cliff Saylor, Commander
