Foothills Area Command and APD items for August 2012
Dear Foothills Neighbors,
Foothills Area Command and APD items for August 2012:
• Slow Down Albuquerque signs are now available at the Foothills Area Command Substation (12800 Lomas) and will be available tomorrow at the James Dwyer Substation (12700 Montgomery). These are free of charge and for neighbors who live in school zones to place in their yards to remind motorists to slow down.
• Copper Thefts continue city-wide and this crime not only affects businesses, but also single-family residences. 2012 Year-to-Date we have had 209 businesses and 47 residences victimized. March numbers show 3 residences were victimized with this crime; April residential copper thefts jumped to 19! Please keep extra watch on homes under foreclosure, for sale or vacant – these homes are being targeted. Unoccupied homes have also had cabinets, sinks, pipes, etc. stolen.
• More on Copper Thefts – PNM street-side power boxes should all have locks. Copper wire theft costs our community businesses losses in repairs, lost business due to down-time, which in turn, hurts our local economy. Please be vigilant and watch out for your community businesses too. If you see a box without a lock or that has been tampered with, please call PNM and if you suspect someone is casing a PNM box call 242-COPS (2677).
• VIN etching will now be occurring throughout the year! Call 311 to get times, dates and locations. VIN etching on your vehicle windows is adding a layer of protection to your vehicle and thwarts efforts to re-sell your vehicle windows.
• I had a neighbor report she was approached by a clean-cut woman holding a cell phone in a Foothills area grocery store parking lot asking if she could clean the woman’s car windshield. This made our neighbor very uncomfortable. She reported it to the store manager and they sent employees out to safe-guard customers and run off this person. Please be safe and report this type of activity to the business and to 242-COPS (2677).
• APD’s re-vamped web site: http://cabq.gov/police/news. We are featuring 1-2 news stories a day on the web site; please enjoy this new feature and our new look.
• National Night Out: thanks to everyone in the Foothills for your partnership with law enforcement. The Foothills Area Command officers, Crime Prevention Specialist, Sergeants, Lieutenants, and Commander Rowe all thank you!
Thank you for your partnership and community involvement!
