Attempted Carjacking on Hugh Graham, Friday 18 February, 2011
Please make a note of this recent attempt at carjacking.
From one of our neighbors...
About 3:30 am, Friday, Feb. 18th someone tried to carjack an early 1990's Jeep in our neighborhood on Hugh Graham. The car was parked at the side of the driveway. The alarm went off and the owners turned on lights and turned off the car alarm system. When the alarm went off, it is likely that someone drove by and the thief left the scene. The Jeep owners called APD the next morning.
In September or possibly August of last year, someone stole an older SUV with trailer and riding mower from a home about 3 houses away from this latest theft attempt on Hugh Graham.
The APD officer said that thieves like older cars for use in drug or other crime situations as they are expendable and do not arouse suspicion. Best to park vehicles in garages or behind locked gates making it more difficult for thieves to access them.
REMINDER - A thief can come up behind you when you are entering or exiting your vehicle. BE AWARE - look around before you enter or exit. If possible, enter and exit your vehicle inside your garage with the garage door closed.
If someone is trying to steal your vehicle, stay inside and call 911 immediately, don't confront them.
