Subject: FW: Upcoming Open Space Events this September

Open Space Supporters,

We continue to offer a wide array of free activities and workshops for the public to get out and explore our County Open Space treasures. See below for a list of upcoming events this September.

Nature Packs Continues
Every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Bachechi Open Space
During the past pilot phase of Nature Packs, we received a number of positive comments from both children and their parents regarding their experiences using the Nature Packs contents and exploring Bachechi Open Space. Therefore, we will continue and expand the project. Nature Packs will be offered every Saturday from September 1 to October 27. We will also increase the most popular themed packs including the preschool and birding packs.
Starting this Saturday, Nature Packs will be available at Bachechi Open Space from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on a first come first serve basis. The packs are free to use at the property and can be picked up at the Bachechi Environmental Education Building located at 9521 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. Call 314-0398 for more information.

Food Preservation Forum
September 1 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House
Learn about the basics of drying and canning foods to store throughout winter. This workshop will also include a forum and recipe share. Come sample all the different ways we preserve and harvest. See the flyer for more information and to RSVP, reply to this email or call 314-0398.

Stargazing and Astronomy
September 7, 7-10 p.m. at Bachechi Open Space
Bernalillo County Open Space in partnership with The Albuquerque Astronomical Society is offering a stargazing event at Bachechi Open Space. The star party will start with a talk by Dr. Barry Spletzer on amateur astronomy and objects of interest for the night. This will be followed by observing and a laser tour of the constellations at 8 p.m. under that evening sky. To RSVP, reply to this email or call 314-0398.

Celebrate Route 66: A Historic Route
September 8 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Carlito Springs Open Space
Carlito Springs sits above Route 66, one of the oldest and longest roads in the United States and coined as the Main Street of America. This Route played a key role in the migration west and shaping New Mexico’s 20th Century. During this event, we will learn about and celebrate the Route’s history, impact and significance to New Mexico with lectures, music and book signings. See the flyer for more information at to RSVP, reply to this email or call 314-0398.

Annual Food Festival and Field Day, A Message from MRCOG:
October 14 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House
We're gearing up for the 2012 Local Food Festival and Field Day. The event will be free and open to the public. In honor of the New Mexico State Centennial, this year's theme will be "A Celebration of History, Farming, and Culture."
