Dear Foothills Area Command Neighbors, Community Leaders and Apartment Complex Partners,

I have been asked by our APD Crime Prevention Manager and our APD Public Information Officer to notify our community members about another telephone scam that our White Collar Crimes detectives are seeing –

Victims (individuals and businesses) are being contacted by telephone and told that their PNM bill did not go through properly. The caller then requests the person’s or business’s credit card information in order to pay their bill to avoid any disruption or disconnection of their PNM services. Suspects involved in this scam are making fraudulent purchases with victim credit card information. Our APD detectives are hearing about similar cases in the Alamogordo area.

Please use caution and do not give out your personal or banking/credit card information to strangers over the telephone.

Stay safe,
Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist
Foothills Area Command, APD
