Crime Prevention 2013 Wrap-Up
In closing out 2013 I want to thank you, our Foothills Area Command community, for the privilege of providing APD Crime Prevention services to you.
My goal has been to deliver a consistently high level of service, to help with your challenges and to provide you with common-sense tools that put you in the ‘driver’s seat’ to reduce your odds of being a victim. I’ve listed the APD Crime Prevention services provided in 2013 hoping to inspire you to continue practicing crime prevention or give you an indication of what’s available to you through my office.
I hope I’ve provided you with ways to achieve peace of mind in your homes and a sense of control when it comes to being safer.

2013 Foothills Crime Prevention Re-Cap:
Neighborhoods:
• 14 Neighborhood Watch Facilitation meetings conducted
• 10 new Foothills Neighborhood Watch groups established
• Attended 5 National Night Out events
• 136 Foothills Community Meeting Presentations
• 36 Residential Security Inspections Performed
• 300 + letters mailed to residential burglary victims offering Crime Prevention services
Crime Free Multi-Housing Program (CFMH):
• 98 rental management/owners invited to CFMH Workshops
• 5 properties certified into the CFMH program
• 12 CFMH-certified properties audited and renewed membership
• Special Project: Contributed to multi-pronged focused effort to remedy serious crime issues at 3 problem apartment properties.
Skyline Road Self-Initiated Spring/Summer Project:
Worked with business and rentals to partner with APD resulting in:
• 200+ unit apartment complex being CFMH-certified
• Led Tenant Watch meeting for renters
• Offered CFMH training to 10 four-plex owners
• Conducted Crime Prevention/Robbery Awareness workshop
Problem Oriented Policing Special Project:
• Met personally with commercial, church, school, apartment managers and other stakeholders in target zone to educate about Crime Prevention services and APD’s focused efforts to drive burglaries.
• Created and distributed 2,000 Crime Prevention fliers
• Renewed CFMH membership for 228-unit apartment complex
• Invited 56-unit apartment complex into CFMH program
• Booked speaking engagements in the target zone
• Conducted residential Security Assessments in target zone
• Established 3 new Neighborhood Watch groups in target zone
Elementary Schools:
• Provided Crime Prevention services to Apache Elementary School, Matheson Elementary School, Calvary Christian Academy and Gilbert Sena Charter School.
Community Groups:
• Worked with several Cub Scout groups, church groups, and senior center groups on crime prevention.
Business Community:
• Provided Crime Prevention services to day care centers, a campground facility, storage facilities, fitness centers, scientific/engineering business, big-box retail centers, eating establishments, small retail shops and other businesses.
• Spoke about Crime Prevention at city-wide management meeting for local restaurant chain.
• Offered partnership referrals to APD SafeCity CONNECT sites, the APD Real Time Crime Center and referred sites for potential APD Canine Training locations.
Hotels/Motels:
• Worked closely with manager for 6+ months at local motel/RV park to reduce crime and educate employees on Crime Prevention techniques.
Foothills Area Command Officer Appreciation Day:
• Able to secure donations of tent, tables, chairs, face painter, team of 15 community volunteers and communicated event information to the community.
Operation Hope Holiday Project:
• Secured donations 60 blankets, 6 boxes of holiday food/toys
for needy Foothills families and assisted with deliveries.
