“Scams, Cons, Fraud and Identity Theft: How to Protect Yourself”
Thank you to all who signed up for the workshop. The workshop filled in 3 days. Due to the response from the community, I have proposed hosting at least 1 more workshop at the Foothills substation later this year.

Property crime trends
• Property crimes are ‘gateway’ crimes to more violent offenses
• Most violent offenders start out with property crimes
• Seeing shift of violent offenders now committing property crimes
• Seems to be fueled by drug addiction costs

Mail Theft
• APD arrested the female suspect of multiple mail thefts to the cluster boxes and post office boxes in the Foothills Area Command that I warned you about in my last notice.
• Although we made an arrest, please continue to practice crime prevention regarding mail thefts.

Residential Burglaries
Front doors continue to be the points-of-entry for residential burglars.
Keep your sight lines clear – fortify your door frames with deadbolts and solid strike plates with screws that penetrate deep into the frame – lock up!

Auto Burglaries
Jackets, stereos, checks, vehicle registrations were all left in vehicles and stolen in the Foothills last week. Remove all items of value from vehicles!

Copper Theft Arrest
Our Foothills officers arrested a male last Thursday who was near a power box around 3:00 pm at one of our local businesses along the Juan Tabo corridor. The subject had a drill, screwdriver, tools and copper wire when our officers arrived and caused about $2,500 -$3,000 in damage/repair costs.

Continue to watch for suspicious persons with tools who appear to be hanging around power boxes at public buildings, businesses, churches, etc. Report any sightings to 242-COPS (2677) from a place where you are safe.
