Foothills Area Command Crime Prevention Information
Foothills Area Command Crime Prevention Information
Dear Foothills Area Command Community Leaders,
I have some information to share with you on burglaries, prevention, the importance of filing police reports, APD Real Time Crime Center partnership opportunities, and the next VIN etching with our APD Auto Theft team.
Please share with your memberships, Neighborhood Watches, apartment communities, etc.
Recent Foothills Area Auto Burglaries:
• Saturdays and Sundays were peak days for the past week
• Apartment parking lots and residential streets were targeted
• Cash, credit cards, GPS units, iPods and tools were stolen
• Extra note of caution: In addition to not leaving anything of value in your vehicle, remember to remove papers with your personal information and garage door openers. This includes vehicle titles, which should be kept in a secure separate location.
Burglaries at Churches/Places of Worship:
• I am continuing to see this trend continuing.
• Offices and sheds are being targeted.
• I am available by appointment to conduct a site visit and recommend security measures to our faith community.
• I understand 1 church had an attempted burglary, but did not file a report.
• Filing a police report for attempted or actual burglaries helps APD see the full scope and identify trends, suspect information, methods of entry, etc.
We make it easy to file police reports:
o Go to any APD substation
o Go online to www.cabq.gov to the APD section
o Call APD’s Telephone Reporting Unit at 768-2030
o Call 242-COPS (2677) from the location and request an officer
Harden your targets at your worship facility and offices:
o Secure doors and windows, repair broken latches
o Lock up sheds and tools
o Do not leave doors propped open
o Keep electronics and computers secured in locked areas
o Do not have valuables in plain view
o Deposit offerings/collections promptly
o What is being stolen? Stereo equipment, TVs, CD changers, ladders, air compressors, snow blowers, gas cans, and chain saws have been stolen from APD Foothills and North East Area Commands. These items are most likely pawned or taken to recycle centers, flea markets or traded.
Partnership Opportunities for Apartments, Businesses, Places of Worship:
Contact our Real Time Crime Center’s Sgt. Felipe Garcia if you are interested in partnering with APD’s RTCC using your existing camera surveillance at your facility.
Call Sgt. Garcia at 205-5688 or felipegarcia@cabq.gov for more information.
Stay safe! Thank you for your support of Crime Prevention efforts and our Foothills Area Command police officers, leadership and substation staff.
