Foothills Area Command Crime Prevention: September 5, 2014
From APD:
What You Need to Know:
Residential Burglaries in the Foothills 9/ 1 - 9/ 4: Open windows and sliding glass doors at the rear of homes continue to be points of entry for burglars this week.
Screens were removed to access open windows and sliding glass doors were removed from their tracks by criminals.
I am still seeing crimes via garages left open. One victim attempted to chase the offender running away with property stolen from the victim's garage. Don't risk this type of dangerous encounter with a criminal.
How can you protect yourself and your home?
• Lock up - doors, windows, garages, gates.
• Check locks on your side gates leading to back yards.
• Get an anti-lift/ anti-slide mechanism for windows.
• Form a Neighborhood Watch group. Call me!
• Call me for a residential security assessment visit. I will come to your home for about 45 minutes and leave you with a checklist of recommendations for your home.
A Few More Notes...
Door to Door Solicitors Reported Recently:
• A heavy-set Hispanic man going door to door around 11:00 p.m. asking for $30 so his daughter can repair her vehicle.
• A male going to apartments around 8:00 p.m. claiming to be a resident / neighbor asking to borrow a cup of flour.
• A Hispanic male in an early '90s light tan Suburban sneaking into gated apartment community behind vehicles with a card key to open the gate. This person has been seen for 4 nights at one of our Foothills apartment communities.
Report these types of incidents to 242-COPS, then share the information with your NA / HOA and Neighborhood Watch groups and feel free to loop me in after you have called 242- COPS.
Do not follow or confront, just report from a place where you are safe and provide the best description you can.
VIN Etching Event in the Foothills:
Saturday, September 20th at Hinkle Family Fun Center 12931 Indian School Road NE
APO Auto Theft will do VIN etchings from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your vehicle registration with you.
Thank you for supporting APD crime prevention efforts.
Stay safe,
