Public Meeting on Proposed Complete Streets Ordinance Empty UPDATE: Proposed NEW Neighborhood Traffic Management Program

Post  Admin Thu Nov 06, 2014 9:19 pm

Dear Neighbors,

The City Council’s Land Use Planning and Zoning Committee (LUPZ), deferred action on R-14-99 in September and October in order to provide neighborhood associations and the public adequate time to review the program and issue any comments pertaining to it.  R-14-99 adopts a new Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, which establishes requirements and procedures for the implementation of traffic calming measures in our neighborhoods.

Based on ongoing stakeholder input, Council staff is recommending edits to the document.  The original draft manual and a redline draft with recommended edits are available online at the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program Policy Manual webpage.  The next LUPZ hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 in the City Council Committee Room, 9th floor of City Hall.

Council staff will continue to take public comment:  tmenicucci@cabq.gov, Policy Analyst II, City Council Office, 768-3126, tmenicucci@cabq.gov.   You are also welcome to attend and make comments at the LUPZ hearing on Wednesday, October 15.

Please share this with your neighbors and other members of your association!

Sincerely,

Diane Dolan

Public Meeting on Proposed Complete Streets Ordinance Empty Public Meeting on Proposed Complete Streets Ordinance

Post  Admin Thu Oct 23, 2014 6:10 pm

City Councilor Isaac Benton invites all ABQ residents to a public meeting on the proposed Complete Streets Ordinance.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 5 at 6:00pm
WHERE: Council Committee Room (9th floor of the City/County Government Bldg - 1 Civic Plaza NW)
WHY: Public presentation and Q & A on 0-14-27 Complete Streets Ordinance

What are Complete Streets?

Complete Streets are created to efficiently serve all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and
motorists. They utilize best practice standards that have been successfully employed in other cities around the country. Where feasible, Complete Streets incorporate features such as:
• wider sidewalks
• street trees
• on-street parking
• bicycle lanes
• protected mid-block crossings
• traffic calming techniques
Complete Streets techniques help high traffic areas be more inclusive of all forms of urban transportation, reducing congestion while making streets safer.

What does O-14-27 do?
The Complete Streets Ordinance establishes a new city-wide goal to expand safe use of our streets by requiring equal consideration of the efficiency and safety of all types of travel. The ordinance will also adopt nationally- recognized standards for streets to serve existing and future development with appropriate infrastructure that encourages walkability and inviting public spaces.

The first formal hearing on the bill will be at the Wednesday, November 12 Land Use Planning & Zoning Committee (LUPZ) at 5:00 pm in the City Council Committee Room on the 9th Floor of the City/County Government Building.

If you have questions, please contact Diane Dolan, Policy Analyst for City Councilor Isaac Benton, District 2 768-3186 or ddolan@cabq.gov.
