Dear Foothills Area Command Neighbors,
I am sending an update on our 2nd Annual Holiday Food Challenge. Our goal at the Foothills Area Command is to feed 65 families identified by our local elementary school counselors as needy and most likely to go without a holiday meal for their families this holiday season. Last month we got started on our project and I will update you on what we are focusing on for donations each month throughout the project.
This project was very rewarding for all of us last year. We were able to far surpass our initial goal of 2 families to 25 families and ended up being able to feed 65 families and visit each family personally, pairing a community member and an APD officer to deliver the food boxes. I hope your Neighborhood Association members, Home Owner Association residents, families, co-workers, community and civic groups or anyone else who may want to participate will consider this worthy project when you are in the grocery store, super-store warehouses, dollar stores or contemplating our community and those in need.
The month of September we are focusing on canned goods for donations. Donations may be dropped off at the Foothills Area Command Substation at 12800 Lomas Boulevard NE (between Juan Tabo and Tramway) anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please direct any inquiries to APD Chaplain Leo Collymore at 323-4657.
