APD Caution - Door to Door Activity
Recent Door-to-Door Activity in the Foothills and City-Wide:
Incidents in the Past Week (and it’s only Wednesday!):
• A report of a woman going door-to-door at 9:30 pm asking for cash for gas money to drive to Belen to pick up her child.
• A woman going door-to-door asking for gas money, different story, same approach, but also doing this at apartment complexes.
• Trio of females going door-to-door ringing bells, peering in windows. This trio was operating in the afternoon – when most homes are burglarized.
All women have been reported to be in vehicles and one approaches the door while the other(s) wait in the vehicles then drive off when rebuffed or ignored by resident.
What to Do:
• Report suspicious activity and what appears to be casing homes/vehicles to our non-emergency number 242-COPS (2677).
• Please report this to:
o 1) your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain or your Neighborhood Association/HOA person who is a point of contact for your neighborhood to get the word out to members
o 2) loop me in at the Foothills Substation via e-mail (jcgarcia@cabq.gov) or voicemail (323-4644) or alert a supervisor on duty (332-5240)
• Acknowledge your presence – we do not want these people to assume the home is unoccupied and vulnerable to a burglary.
Taking Action:
• Contact me to come to your home to conduct a security assessment. This takes about an hour and will reduce your chances of being a victim of crime.
• Get a “No Solicitors” sign – and note you will call APD if bothered.
• Speak up! Report this activity to those who were elected or volunteered as points of contact for your neighborhood. Empower your neighborhood by building unity and sharing information.
• Start a Neighborhood Watch team on your block! Start the ball rolling by contacting Steve Sink, Crime Prevention Manager, at 924-3600.
Thanks for all the great information and support you provide to me and our Foothills Area Command officers. Continue to enjoy your homes and ‘harden the targets’ – Stay Safe,
