APD has garnered the support of the volunteers they needed, but invites citizens to visit during the event and thank officers.

Officer Appreciation Day is Friday, September 27th at the Foothills Substation from 1:00 to 5:00 pm
(12800 Lomas Blvd NE between Tramway and Juan Tabo).

This is our day to recognize the Foothills officers and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to our community.

Please contact Jill Garcia at 323-4644 or by email to jcgarcia@cabq.gov with Questions.

Volunteer Teams Needed for Officer Appreciation Day!
Officer Appreciation Day is Friday, September 27th at the Foothills Substation
(12800 Lomas Blvd NE between Tramway and Juan Tabo).

This is our day to recognize the Foothills officers and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to our community.

We need 12 people to help serve lunch to our officers at the event in
2 teams of 6 people at 1:00 – 3:00 pm and 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
Please contact me at 323-4644 or by email to jcgarcia@cabq.gov if you can help.

Volunteering to serve could be a fun group project for Neighborhood Watch groups, Neighborhood Association/HOA teams or apartment community managers and staff who would like to support our officers.

I’ve included a poem that one of our Foothills citizens handed to one of our officers.  This citizen carries copies of this poem with him and hands a copy to police officers he sees throughout his day.  He made our officer’s day and the officer shared it with me.  I hope you find it meaningful.

If you want to commend an APD law enforcement individual, please visit our web site and add your comments via:  http://www.cabq.gov/police and click on the “Contact the Police” link to submit your comments.

The Cop

Before you rush to judge a cop,
Take a little time and stop
To think about life on the street,
All alone on the beat.
Or with your partner on patrol,
A call comes in and you start to roll.
Not knowing if you will live or die;
There is not time to wonder why.
Just hope and pray you will survive;
Rule Number 1 is “Stay Alive!”
What looks at first to be routine
Can quickly turn into a scene.
You never know who you might meet –
Murderer, rapist, kidnapper, thief.
Warrants, outstanding, on the run,
And not afraid to use a gun.
So if you are stopped by a cop,
Whether you are wrong or not,
They may seem cold or even rough,
Please understand their job is tough.
They do not know if you might be
A fugitive or an escapee.
Chances are, of course, you are not.
The car is yours, it isn’t hot.
Nonetheless, they’ll check you out.
There isn’t any room for doubt.
So do your best to be polite
Even if you think you’re right.
That’s not to say you can’t explain,
Just refrain from calling names.
Don’t shout or scream or utter threats.
Show respect and don’t forget…
You never know, it could be true.
Someday they may be rushing
To come and help you.
