Recently received from APD
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,
Upcoming Events:
Albuquerque Block Captain Association conference
Saturday, May 10th at the APD Academy, 5412 Second Street NE 8:00 - 9:00 registration and social time; 9:00 - Noon speakers
Although geared towards Neighborhood Watch Block Captains, the conference is open to anyone with an interest in crime prevention.

"Scams, Cons, Fraud and Identity Theft : How to Protect Yourself ' Thursday, May 22nd at the Foothills Substation 12800 Lomas Blvd NE 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm RSVP to Jill Garcia, 332-5240 or jcgarcia@cabq.gov
This is event is free and open to all; however, due to limited seating (30 seats) an RSVP is required to ensure we can seat each attendee.

This type of workshop is available to go 'on the road' to faith groups, senior centers, neighborhood gatherings, etc. To book a workshop for your group, call the APD White Collar Crimes Unit at 768-2300.

New Residential Burglary Trend: Please spread the word -
Offenders are disabling electricity to homes by pulling the PNM meters and then committing residential burglaries . A white or cream Ford SUV possibly 2004 model, chrome rims with center caps missing with a female driver and 2 males in the vehicle was reported in the North East Area Command and a Foothills neighbor reported a similar vehicle near a burglary location with 7 or more subjects in the vehicle close to the time of the burglary.

If you see suspicious activity near PNM meters or possible 'casing' activity, call 242-COPS (2677) or 911 if in progress. Call from a safe place and then notify your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain so the BC can contact me and I can notify our Foothills team .

Foothills Area Command Neighborhood Watch information:
A Block Captain reports a large pottery planter was stolen from her porch this week. This was during daylight hours and the offender dumped the dirt out of the pot and loaded it into a vehicle .

Another Block Captain reported a bicycle stolen on the block and males at night walking up driveways looking into vehicle windows. Make a pledge to bring in all property kept outside your home and keep those lights on all night!

Foothills Area Command Apartment Community : Rent money orders/checks are still being stolen from drop boxes. Investing in tamper-proof boxes , alerting security patrols and requiring residents to pay rent in person will help reduce this type of criminal activity.

Crime Free Multi-Housing Workshop for Owners/ Managers:
Thanks to everyone who attended the workshop in April. The next step towards getting your rental property CFMH-certified is to book a site inspection with me. If you only attended the workshop as a refresher or to learn more about reducing criminal activity at rental properties , thanks for attending. The next class will be October 9th; contact me for more information.

Crime Trends in the Foothills:
Auto Burglaries : Offenders are breaking windows to enter vehicles and some offenders have it easy - victims have left vehicles unlocked with valuables inside. Lock up and remove all valuables from vehicles.

When is this happening? Top days/ times are:
Sat/ Sun at 3:00 a.m., 11:00 p.m . then Mon / Sat at 3:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m.

What is being stolen from vehicles? In order of highest number: Purses, tools, bags, cash, iPods, laptops, firearms and registrations.

Residential Burglaries: Offenders are continuing to strike at the back of homes. We see a trend of removing window screens and entering through unlocked windows. We had additional reports of a broken back door and a broken doggie door in the last few weeks .

Pit bull puppies are being stolen from homes in the South East and North East Area Commands. Again - extra eyes on the block will help curb this criminal activity.

When are the residential burglaries occurring?
Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. followed by Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

If you would like me to visit your property and conduct a security assessment, give me a call (332-5240).

Thanks for your support of the Crime Prevention programs in the Foothills Area Command and to our officers, lead ership and staff
