This 5 minute video shows you how certain types of landscaping can reduce your odds of being a victim of crime. The general crime prevention guideline is tree foliage starting at 6 feet and shrubs being no taller than 3 or 3 1/2 feet.
Foothills Substation Lobby Fliers:
• APD Operation Hope/ Children's Cancer Fund of NM school supply drive
• Tips from our detectives on Keeping Your Property Safe
• Keeping the Burglars at Bay - how to protect your home from burglary Come by and pick up a flier to learn more about crime prevention.
Property Crime in the Foothills: Fri 6/ 27 - Wed 7/ 3
Stolen Vehicles: Motorcycles, scooters and early 90's Honda Civics and Accords parked overnight in apartment parking lots and in residential areas were targeted this past week.
Auto Burglaries:
Items stolen from vehicles since Friday: Wallets - Title - Firearms The stolen firearm may be used to commit violent crime(s) and the wallet contents and vehicle title may be used to commit fraud and identity theft.
Vehicle left with windows rolled down or parked unattended for days, were targets over the past week.
Tires and rims were stolen off of a vehicle parked overnight in apartment complex parking lot this week. Apartment managers please alert security patrols to watch for any burned out exterior lighting and anyone 'casing' parking lots. We saw these types of thefts over the last 2 summers, but in residential areas - this was unusual to see at an apartment complex.
Residential Burglaries: Citizens are still leaving garage doors open and criminals are taking advantage. Criminals are also burglarizing homes via unlocked and open doors and windows. Protect yourself, your property and your family by locking up and keeping garages closed. Remember to lock the door leading into your homes from the garage too.
Lock doors, windows, garages, and call 242-COPS (2677) if you see suspicious persons in your area attempting to enter homes or hop fences or walls.
Homes that need 'extra eyes' from Neighborhood Watches: vacant homes, homes where people are moving in/ out, homes where occupants have gone on vacation, homes being renovated / remodeled.
APD Operation Hope and Children’s Cancer Fund of NM School Supply Drive
APD substations are collecting donated school supplies, backpacks and gift cards for shoe purchases for needy APS children grades K-12.
The back-to-school drive ends August 1st.
Stay safe and have a Happy Independence Day! Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist
