Urban Wildlife Refuge Update
From Commissioner Art De La Cruz…
Dear Friends:
I have some great news! We are another step closer in making the Urban Wildlife Refuge a reality. Today, the AMAFCA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to contribute $1.81 million toward acquisition and to enter into temporary construction easements with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
It has been my pleasure to collaborate with AMAFCA Commissioner Danny Hernandez in bringing local resources to this project. With the County’s contribution of $5 million and AMAFCA’s contributions, this is a major funding and procedural hurdle that is now behind us.
I am committed to seeing this project through, as it is truly a valuable amenity to county residents , the City of Albuquerque, the entire state and the southwest region.
We will continue to keep you informed on the progress of this project as it develops. In the interim, please contact Clay Campbell, Open Space Planning Manager at 314.0404 with any questions regarding this venture.
Regards,
Art
