Neighborhood Warning from APD - Auto Thefts, Auto Burglary, "Knock at the door"
The following advisory info from APD
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dear Neighbors,
I’d like to warn you about some crime trends going on city-wide and in the Foothills Area Command. With neighbors looking out for neighbors and reporting suspicious activity to APD, we can fight criminal activity together.
We are experiencing more incidents of auto theft due to warming up cars and leaving them unattended. This situation makes your vehicle a very attractive target for a criminal. The hottest vehicle targets for auto thieves are Hondas, then Toyotas, and motorcycles are also high on their list. Please do not leave your car running unattended!
We at APD are focusing on auto burglary trends as well. Please avoid becoming a target by not leaving anything visible in your vehicle. In the past week I’ve reviewed auto burglary reports noting purses left in the vehicle in plain view or under the seat. I’ve also noted laptops being stolen from vehicles. It only takes a moment to break into a vehicle and if certain tools are used, the criminal can be quick and break your vehicle window with very little noise being made to attract attention.
The “knock at the door” is also on the rise in our area. There have been reports of a team of one female knocking on a door in the middle of the night with an ‘emergency’ and two male accomplices are behind her and trying to get into the home – please use caution, call 911 or 242-COPS, never let a stranger into your home and TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!
The Foothills Area Command is working on a special tactical plan focusing on what we call “super hot spots” using crime analysis, trends, and patterns to target areas being hit the hardest. Please help us by continuing to be our “eyes and ears” in the community.
Thank You, and Be Safe!
