Another announcement from APD

July 20, 2012

Dear Foothills Neighbors,

I’d like to ask you to continue to watch for metal/wire thefts. These types of thefts continue to occur at strip malls and businesses, but metal/wire thefts are creeping into the city’s neighborhoods too.

I have been briefed about a crew using an unmarked van, traffic cones, a light on top of the van and wearing vests in an effort to look “official” and they are actually stealing wire. As community members, you are in a good position to notice this type of activity and contact APD immediately to 242-COPS (2677) to send an officer to determine if these are legitimate workers. Remember, PNM or Century Link will always use marked vehicles and clearly identifiable employees. Please do not approach these persons if you see them; just report it to APD from a safe place.

Please continue to be watchful of the homes in your area that may be vacant, under renovation or for sale. Offenders are targeting these types of homes to steal wiring and metal. The beauty of neighbors looking out for neighbors is that you can recognize and report suspicious behavior and you know better than anyone else what is normal in your neighborhood.

Stay safe!
