Fourth Annual ABQIF Showcases Southeast Albuquerque
The Albuquerque International Festival – ABQIF – is a daylong multicultural event that celebrates the International District of Southeast Albuquerque, bringing in diverse entertainment, food and crafts. This year’s ABQIF – the fourth annual festival – will be held on September 29th at the Talin Market, Louisiana and Central Avenue from 10a-5p.
The purpose of the FREE event is to highlight the International District and provide a showcase for local International items from throughout the metro area. As a benefit to potential small businesses and neighborhood residents, economic development organizations, health organizations and personal and business services offer information at booths located throughout the festival site. S. San Pedro Neighborhood Association, Elder Homestead Neighborhood Association & STEPS, with help from the Southeast Heights community, organizes this FREE event.
The City of Albuquerque is the festival’s major sponsor, providing most of the funding with other funding coming from Bernalillo County and Mesa del Sol. The City and County agencies are also participating in health & wellness information, and family oriented entertainment. This year’s event is shaping up to be even better.
Entertainment will range from Lion/Ribbon Dancer, Karate Demos to Asian dance to poetry, to Native American rock to Thai Dancer/Musicians, to New Mexico music. Ethnic food and a variety of jewelry, baskets, food items and other crafts will be available for purchase throughout the venue plus a FREE kidz zone.
This year, STEPS will again show their support for local food carts and the development of a food cart “pod” in the International District at the Talin Market site and future areas in Albuquerque.
